Mothering and hobbies with young kid(s)

Last night we had a momentus evening. I was able to actually work with my horse with no help (aka someone watching kiddo)!

Sounds silly but my life just changed again. I have needed to get more riding/ fitness work in for my horse Murphy for ages now. We just aren’t fit enough to power through an hour lesson where we are WeRkInG without having to take breather breaks throughout it.

And honestly no shame in saying that it’s just the season of life I’ve been in.

My kiddo is 3 and a half now and really starting to blossom. The weather has also changed to warm and the sun is setting late now which gives me so much more energy.

I got a tote of water and some toys and just left the water on. Kiddo checked in with me a few times but he was a responsible young man! He played with his water and toys and I got a solid 25 minutes in of actual work time with Murphy!

It was absolutely glorious.

I threw on Murphy’s boots and we did a nice W,T,C session with just a glisten of sweat and some really really really good moments. I am so filled with hope that I will get kiddo and Murphy used to working about 20 minutes in the evenings to get fitted up!

In a couple weeks, I will start riding a couple days during the week.

I have dreamed of this day for years. Since I parent solo every evening I just haven’t felt I could safely watch my kiddo and work with Murphy before now. And really it was hard but worth it to me. Nothing is worth the safety of my kid.

So to mothers with a young child just know it’s just a season.

Last night I only stopped once to come help kiddo and it puts everything in perspective. The plan is to live a long healthy life so there are plenty of years for me to focus on my passion and a few years isn’t that big of deal to have slowed down. Added to the fact I have SO MUCH MORE confidence now that I am being a parent that I am actually a million times better rider than me pre kid. Even with less riding time. It’s crazy but true.
