Saddle sage news

Tuesday my farrier came out. Wednesday the saddle fitter came out.

And why does no one talk about how hard it is to fit in normal adult appointments (oil change, license renew, etc) into life AND THEN for us insane horse people their appointments.

However, the cold backed issue with murphy lately let me know something was amiss.

Hence the saddle fitter.

Murphy was an absolute dream to work with though. He just hung out droopily while he was traced and checked on his current saddle.

Conclusion – he needs a new saddle.

His current saddle is great for the length since he is actually very short backed. Bad because it’s not wide enough.

The saddle fitter I had out explained that many saddle brands just have the gullet pivot on an A frame but her brand (London of Bliss) actually changes into more of a longer ‘U’ as the angle gets wider.

most other brands on the left , bliss on the right

as soon as he was traced and I hopped on in the wide I immediately felt a large difference. He didn’t act up and his movement was much bigger than what I am used to in our current saddle.

Granted each saddle fitter is bias to their own brand but I just hate this process and if I can get a saddle that my horse likes then I'm all about not wasting anymore time. To get a horse traced and saddle fitted is generally about 100 bucks.

So there we go. I extremely dislike saddle selling/buying. They are one of the products that are super hard to sale and super easy to buy. I love my Meyer Selle saddle too it’s one how we got him to stop bucking as it was short enough. It’s also beautiful. If anyone is in the market for a 17” MW French saddle for short backed horses—hit me up! I need to unload this one so I can buy a new one*.

she's so beautiful I'm sad to see her go

*Actual plan is to look on the used market for a few weeks before going the new route.

Shew.

I am excited but also feel a little guilty to spend any money on this hobby. BUT it keeps my joyful so here we go.

Happy riding friends.
