This weekend was a fun tornado. My trainer came out to my farm to give me a lesson since my friend sold her mule and needed to borrow my truck and trailer. Thankfully my sisters took my kiddo with their kiddos to a Dutch safari park for several hours so I could have my lesson.

My trainer did a couple hyoid releases with him at first to unlock the top line muscle and after this he was moving out freer and bigger. Basically, a manual hyoid release is just gently putting your thumb with gentle pressure in roof of their mouth, and just following them through the up and down chewing until they finally stop chewing and release (this is my elementary explanation) It’s something I need to be better about doing every day with both of my horses because it makes a world of difference.

We worked on 90 degree turns, extended walk and trot, side passing, and showed Susan our canter. I am bursting with excitement to have our next lesson at Erin’s house with a flat grass arena to work on these and get THAT feeling of absolute harmony between rider and horse.

This was all on hills so at the end Murphy and I were DRIPPING. I mean this could also mean we are out of shape which…true. I felt like I rode terribly but these lessons are always some of the best highlights of my week! I also love talking with other horsewomen and just getting their  life experience too as mom/farm owner/horse girl/full time worker life is tough sometimes but also the best in the world.

Sunday, farm work wise my mom took my kiddo to church with her so I got to do 2.75 hours of weedeating, and rob got to mow, spray all the fence lines, and work on our finish mower. At several points my hands were numb but our farm is starting to look absolutely gorgeous.

We ended the day with getting the meal train cart, meal prep and passing out from tiredness on the couch ha!

Any good tips or tricks you all like to do before a ride that makes a big difference?

Happy Monday!
