Worst of 2024

Honestly, I’m probably missing some things because A. I tend to block out things I don’t want to remember and B. all the down times during the year don’t really have pictures or reasons I feel down or overwhelmed

  • Losing my dog. I lost my best bud Jasper who I had at the end of college and the beginning of my adulting life. I miss him so still.

  • Getting a bad virus/food poisoning and busting in my front teeth. I had some leftover Mexican but also another lady at the office threw up the same night I got sick so I’m still not sure what it was. It was a Friday night and I started to feel so sick. I am alone with kiddo until about 11 every night so as I was expelling poison from my body in every way possible with kiddo climbing on me and being very entertained. At some point I was on the porcelain bowl and threw up which caused me to pass out face first into the concrete bathroom floor. I had to wait until Monday to get into a dentist where they could shove my front teeth back into position with some temporary braces on them

  • Constant rooster attacks my kiddo. We had chickens. And a couple roosters . unfortunately, there was a mean rooster that really got him good. He wound up on marketplace . Also all of our chickens and roosters got eaten by predators because A. they’re stupid and B. we live in the country and didn’t have any geese/guardians for the flock. Lessons learned for me.

  • Getting 18 round bales ordered that have A LOT of waste on the outside due to subpar hay. I spent $1000 getting hay delivered because we don’t have a huge trailer to hold that many round bales or really have the time to go make a couple loads. LESSON LEARNED. I was working when the hay got delivered and SO got to unload but he is not a horse person so we are stuck with these bales. Every time I put one in the field I have to go take several layers off to get to the good hay. I won’t be doing that again and at least going to get 1 load of bales before I buy a whole 2 truckloads worth.

  • The stupid goats. Goats are SO CUTE. They’re SO FRIENDLY. They also barge in your house, they love to head butt children, they love to escape fencing, they love to poop all over your porch, they love to see your neighbor like a ½ mile away and Sprint to them like a psychopath for pets and maybe food. As a bonus, my horses were either terrified of them or wanted to kill them depending on the day. Maybe at some other point I will try goats again but man I did not win with mine. A guy I work with was wanting some goats to clear some overgrown land so I was able to get rid of them while only losing some money lol

  • I am going to include the honorable mention that every horse person I know has which is feeding and taking care of horses in the winter. It’s honestly quite miserable, feeding in the dark with my poor kiddo trudging along with a flashlight, being outside with numb fingers and toes, especially if I’m sick or the constant filling up of water troughs and draining the line every time .

Overall, 2024 was a wonderful and truly blessed year for me. I hope everyone had a wonderful year and this year brings joy to you.
